About Us

We’re Adele and Richard and we moved to East Trayne in September 2014.

Having spent the majority of our working life in Berkshire, our children having grown up and moved away, we decided that the time was right to make a big change in our lives and leave our regular life for an adventure.

As soon as we saw the property, we knew that it had everything that we were looking for.  A lovely farmhouse, lots of land and space around us and beautiful barns, ripe for conversion.  Wasting no time, we applied for and were granted planning permission and began the building work in March 2016.

It took us a relatively short period of time, in retrospect, to create the beautiful holiday cottages that we have today, being blessed with the best of builders and craftsman in the local area, who all take an exceptional amount of pride in their work.  You will see this in the internal and external finish on the barns.

We have now been running the holiday cottages for a number of years and still get as much enjoyment from it as we did in the beginning. We have been blessed with lovely guests from the UK and around the world and many of them come back to us year after year.

About East Trayne

What makes East Trayne Holiday Cottages special?  We like to think absolutely everything but then again we are biased so let’s mention just a few.

Quiet and rural location, set in an 11 acre smallholding with outstanding views of Exmoor yet just 5 minutes' drive to the bustling market town of South Molton with it's bi-weekly pannier market, tempting tea rooms and independent shops.

A short drive onto Exmoor and only 35 minutes to the award-winning beaches of the North Devon coast.

Newly-converted cottages that retain their historic charm, dating back to the 1600s but with a sensitive touch that combines original features with contemporary and modern interiors.

Acres of sky to enjoy, magnificent on a sunny day but even more impressive on a clear night with no ambient light to spoil extensive constellation spotting - who knew that there were so many stars.  The seasons vary and all hold their special charm.

External pursuits abound.  Walking and cycling from your doorway, fishing, riding and countryside pursuits nearby.  North Devon also offers a wide range of indoor and outdoor attractions for the little ones.

Be greeted with a complimentary welcome hamper filled with homemade and local produce, do all your own catering or have a homemade meal ready in the fridge when you arrive or during your stay. It's not a problem to arrange for a BBQ pack for your return, a picnic to take out or portable BBQ to borrow.

We have endeavoured to create your ideal holiday location.  Just pack your bags, get in the car and leave the rest to us. We hope that you come and enjoy it with us and are looking forward to seeing you soon.
