About The Area
What is wonderful about where we are located is that it has such a wide variety of things to see and do.
It really does have something for everyone.
This is just a flavour of what the area has to offer:
Exmoor National Park is a paradise for hiking and cycling and horse riding, with its breathtaking views.
Tarr Steps is a must to visit with its preserved clapper bridge. A beautiful circular walk finishing off with a pint at the Tarr Steps Inn. You may be lucky to see the Exmoor ponies and red deer.
Over to Lynton and Lynmouth, connected by the Cliff Railway, the highest and steepest water-powered railway in the world. Perhaps take a trip there on the steam train from Woody Bay or a walk from Valley of the Rocks. A beach, independent shops and magnificent vista works up an appetite for a splendid cream tea or fish and chips before you learn about the flooding history and take a walk to Watersmeet to see the waterfalls.
Or maybe take in Lorna Doone country and Heddon’s Mouth then back via Wistlandpound Reservoir and tea at one of our favourite pubs, The Black Venus at Challacombe.
If the coast is drawing you to the area, we have so many options it’s positively greedy. Woolacombe, Ilfracombe, Saunton Sands, Croyde Bay and Puttsborough are just some of the fabulous beaches in easy reach of the cottages. Take a walk up to Baggy Point and beyond for spectacular views and crashing waves. Perhaps fish and chips at Squires or a roast at The Williams Arms in Braunton would fit the bill.
For smaller, quainter options Appledore and Instow face each other over the Bristol Channel. Appledore with its narrow streets rising from the harbour and pretty shops. Instow with its stretch of golden sand. Plenty of pubs and restaurants at each. John’s of Instow, The Glorious Oyster, Instow Arms, The Boathouse, The Seagate to name just a few. Make sure to grab a Hockings ice cream. Truly the best!
Westward Ho! for children’s amusements and an old school seaside town feel. Lunch at the Pier House and walk along the coast to Abbotsham. Bideford, known as the White Town is packed full of shops and you could take a day trip to Lundy Island on the ferry from here to see the wildlife.
Indoor and theme parks activities are also available. For the smaller children the Quince Honey Farm with its play area is in South Molton and is a firm favourite, whilst they also have a great cafe, shop and bee keeping courses for the adults. The Milky Way, The Big Sheep and Watermouth Castle and Exmoor Zoo are all also very popular.
It’s no wonder our guests keep coming back. It’s a remarkable area to holiday in. I am sure you will find your own personal favourites from everything on offer.
